November 12 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Elizabeth and Charles Slater are a U.S. Foreign Service couple with a combined 70 years of government service living around the world, representing the United States through their work at U.S. embassies across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean. Elizabeth currently serves as the Dean of the School of Applied Information Technology within the Foreign Service Institute, where she leads the Department of State’s efforts to train and prepare foreign affairs and information management and technology specialists for the roles they will need to fulfill at U.S. missions around the world. Charlie retired from the Foreign Service in 2015 and now owns a private organization customizing safari tours. They will discuss the long arcs of their Foreign Service careers, various postings overseas, and their experiences as a Foreign Service family, which was far from average.
