I am a Queer Artist of Color and I’m Still Alive.
October 4 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Julio Salgado is an artist and activist. His status as an undocumented, queer “artivist” has fueled the contents of his illustrations, where he depicts individuals and moments of the DREAM Act and migrant rights movements. Undocumented students and allies across the country have used Salgado’s artwork to call attention to the youth-led movement. His work also highlights queer rights, especially noting they are more than being able to get married and join the military — and many in the community are immigrants and people of color.
Visual artist Julio Salgado is a queer artist of color whose work explore themes of immigration and queerness. As an undocumented and queer artist living in times of crisis, he uses his art to deal with anti-immigrant narratives. His lecture is a journey that takes a look behind the pieces he has created in the past decade.
