This annual event focuses on issues related specifically to women professionally, socially, and personally. This year's theme is "Learning through Giving: Mentoring Young Women."
Sibyl of the Rhine: The Art, Music, & Poetry of Hildegard von Bingen

Music, lecture, and dance transport listeners to Medieval Germany with works by Hildegard von Bingen. Come and experience the fascinating life of this remarkable 12th century woman, presented in a rich multi-media performance.
Hildegard was famous in her lifetime and beyond, not only for her excellent music, but for her writings and her influence on her society on a local and international level. Salt Lake City musicians Cheryl Hart (soprano), Emily Nelson (soprano), and Lisa Chaufty (recorder) will be joined by Seattle artist Shulamit Kleinerman (vielle) to interpret Hildegard’s music, supported by an ensemble of singers from the University of Utah. Dancer Carly Schaub with ensemble will enliven this music with original choreography. Dr. Margaret Toscano, Assistant Professor of Classics and Comparative Literature, will bring depth and insight with inspiring lecture about Hildegard’s work. This concert was made possible in part by a Group Teaching Grant from the University of Utah Teaching Committee.

Dr. Lawrence founded the Young Women Leaders Program, a research-based mentoring initiative that pairs adolescent girls with college women to develop the leadership skills of both groups. Dr. Lawrence will present her thoughts on the benefits of mentoring to both adolescent and college women in the areas of self-esteem, and finding one's passions and meaningful careers that can make a difference in critical issues young women face today.
Take Back the Night

"Take Back the Night" is an internationally recognized event created as a way for women to take a stand against sexual violence and increase awareness about crimes against women. "Take Back the Night" marches have been an important way for women to unite and work to reclaim safe spaces for women all around the globe.

Discussion with Dr. Maria Klawe, President of Harvey Mudd College in California. In three years, Dr. Klawe increased representation of women in computer science at Harvey Mudd from 10 to 40%.
Dr. Klawe will speak on how changes in learning environments can allow women to leverage success in the STEM fields.
