Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion is excited to invite three candidates in the search for the next director of the Dream Center: Cristian Gutierrez, Alonso Reyna Rivarola, and Rosa Salamanca.
Candidates will be visiting campus and presenting their vision for the Dream Center, which will be open to the campus. Cristian Gutierrez presentation on August 16, Alonso Reyna Rivarola on August 17, and Rosa Salamanca on August 18. All three presentations will take place in the Panorama East room of the Union Building at 1:30 p.m.
Cristian Gutierrez is a product of migration born to refugees from El Salvador who fled due to the danger of civil war. He is a first-generation student receiving his complete K-12 education in Ogden, Utah, before enrolling at Weber State University, where he received his undergraduate degree and will be completing his graduate program later this academic year. Cristian still lives in Ogden and spends his time with family, gardening, and running his non-profit, Los Dreamers. (Dreamersaward.com) Cristian founded Los Dreamers with a friend to answer Utah’s minimal scholarship opportunities for undocumented and DACA students. He currently works as an advisor for undocumented students and a mental health clinician for the juvenile justice system. As a member of a mixed-status family and through his work, Cristian has dedicated his efforts to servicing his community and fighting for social justice. As his parents taught him, “Da el que quiere, no el que puede.” A family motto and life lesson meaning, “You give because you want to, not because you can.”
