Pride Week: “Happy Birthday, Marsha!” Film Screening
October 1 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Come see a free screening of “Happy Birthday, Marsha!” and get the chance to hear one of the Directors, Tourmaline, talk about the film to kick off Pride Week at the U!
Artist and filmmaker Tourmaline will share her experience of writing, directing, and creating films that unearth histories and stories of queer and trans women of color. Talk will include a screening of Tourmaline’s short film, “Happy Birthday, Marsha!”, a film that imagines transgender rights activist and performer Marsha “Pay It No Mind” Johnson in the hours before the 1969 Stonewall Riots.—
Coinciding with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month, the University of Utah celebrates its Pride Week during the first week of October. For 2019, Pride Week will be Sept. 30 – Oct. 4 and will highlight queeroes in modern-day, who are taking a stand against bigotry and discrimination. This year’s theme, “Queeroes: Reclaiming Hero” will recognize the hero in all of us – especially the heroic efforts exerted by each LGBTQ+ person as they live their lives every day.
