The University of Utah’s Center for Equity & Student Belonging (CESB) is saying goodbye to one of its leaders. CESB Associate Director Montelleo D. Hobley, Jr. is taking a new position at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU).

In his new role, Hobley will be involved in developing a comprehensive threat assessment process that integrates mental health considerations and community intervention responses for the CU campus community. The initiative aims to assess, manage, and mitigate potential threats—ultimately enhancing the culture of caring at the university.

“This will involve utilizing campus reporting mechanisms for concerns such as mental health issues, harassment, or other alarming behaviors,” Hobley said. “Additionally, it will entail facilitating access to campus resources for those experiencing traumatic events, while consistently demonstrating kindness, compassion, and support for all community members.”

Additionally, his responsibilities will include overseeing Threat Assessment Teams, co-chairing the Students of Concern Team, and leading the Behavioral Intervention Team. Within his new role, he will analyze reports of concerning behavior, conduct research on individuals of concern, conduct threat assessment interviews and educate the university community on reporting procedures and concerning behaviors through various communication channels.

Hobley will be remembered with great respect for all he contributed during his U tenure.

“Montelleo has been such a wonderful addition to the CESB team. His strong background in policy and institutional knowledge has been instrumental in helping CESB to refine and expand on our center policies, practices and procedures to ensure we work more effectively together as a team,” said CESB Executive Director Cassie Cathcart. “This critical work would be nowhere near as far along had Montelleo not joined our team. His contributions have been robust and impactful to not only CESB, but to each and every staff member.”

“He was always there to workshop ideas with, and truly helped me to become a better leader for the center,” she added. “I will miss having him on my team, but I am so excited for him and his next opportunity. He is going to have a huge positive impact on the UC Boulder community.”
