Red Dead Redemption, Native Representation and Futurity in Gaming

November 16, 2023 @ 4:00 pm 5:30 pm MST

On Thursday, Nov. 16th, Dr. Ashlee Bird will present her book, Red Dead Redemption, Native Representation and Futurity in Gaming, from 4:00 – 5:30pm, in the CTIHB / Jewel Box. Dr. Bird is a Native American game designer and and received her PhD in Native American Studies. Her dissertation, “Representation and Reclamation: The History and Future of Natives in Gaming,” examined representations of Native American characters in video games.

Dr. Bird’s book, Red Dead Redemption, examines the complex relationships that different players have with video games and undertakes an exploration of the Red Dead Redemption series, focusing on what the games have offered, (or not offered), to their player bases.
