The University of Utah is actively establishing partnerships and programs with university organizations and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) aligned with the University of Utah’s mission and vision.

Partnership Programs


HBCU IMPACT Program

The HBCU IMPACT Program immerses diverse and talented undergraduate and graduate students from all over the country in the unique environment of Salt Lake City, Utah. These students intern at premier companies to gain and provide mentorship, enhance professional development skills, work toward academic achievement, and engage with the community.

REACH U2

REACH U2 provides undergraduate students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities with an intensive ten-week summer research experience with University of Utah faculty. This program aims to prepare these students to enroll in competitive graduate programs by offering hands-on experience in disciplines at the intersection of health disparity and biomedical research.

5 for the Fight

5 for the Fight is a partnership with Howard University to provide cancer research internships to Howard undergraduates through a 10-week long summer program.

USTARS

Utah Summer Training Academy for Rising Surgeons (USTARS) is hosted by the Department of Surgery here at the University of Utah. This is a 6-week summer program that is guided by Utah faculty and aims to establish mentorship relationships that go beyond the 6-week program curriculum.

Genomic Summer Research for Minorities (GSRM) Internship

The Genomics Summer Research for Minorities (GSRM) internship provides a ten-week summer research program for undergraduate students interested in biosciences or bioinformatics with a focus on genomics research, including ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI) of genomics research. The GSRM is funded by an NIH Research Education Program (R25) and supported by the University of Utah Department of Pediatrics.

Ronald E. McNair Graduate Fellowship

The purpose of the Ronald E. McNair Graduate Fellowship is to provide one-time financial and academic support to first-year graduate students pursuing their Ph.D. or master’s degree. McNair alumni also have the opportunity to join the McNair Scholars Graduate Network.

Summer Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR)

The University of Utah’s Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) Summer Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) 2024, Summer programs at the University of Utah are nationally competitive opportunity providing undergraduates with an intensive paid research experience (10-weeks: May 22- August 1, 2024).  Learn and apply machine learning to solve important real-world problems. You will interact with PhD students and other undergraduate researchers to learn about optics, cameras and imaging in general. You also have the opportunity to learn experimental techniques, data analysis and of course, machine learning!
