Amy Fulton and Morgan Aguilar pose by a large marquee sign reading, 'WLI Grads.'

“Participating in the WLI Career Development Series was a rare and valuable opportunity … to think about my goals and priorities for professional growth. I got to meet some incredible women from across the state, reflect on the kind of colleague and manager I want to be, and enhance my own self-confidence to build the career I want moving forward.”

WLI 2022 Alumna Morgan Aguilar
MPA student, The University of Utah

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) at the University of Utah is happy to announce that it will once again be sponsoring three to five University of Utah graduate students to participate in the eight-month Women’s Leadership Institute Career Development Series. The Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI) in Utah is open to students from any of the University’s masters or professional schools and is focused on elevating women across the state. EDI and the New Leadership Academy (NLA) are partnering with WLI this year to continue broadening the availability and impact of this program for University of Utah students.

This past year, more than 90 women leaders participated in the Career Development Series and EDI sponsored five full scholarships for University of Utah graduate students to take part in the Institute. These enrollees attended both virtual and in-person leadership development sessions from January to August at various supportive businesses in the Salt Lake City area. Speakers in the Career Development Series included leaders from the community and WLI alumnae, sharing their expertise and experiences on a broad range of topics—from the psychology of leadership to decision-making strategies to tips for handling implicit bias.

On behalf of the New Leadership Academy; Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion; and the Women’s Leadership Institute, we would like to congratulate the following WLI 2022 Alumnae:

  • Ja’net Baide, PhD Student in Anthropology
  • Anh Nguyen, PhD Student in Chemistry
  • Emily Pollard, Master’s Student in Educational Leadership and Policy
  • Morgan Aguilar, Master’s Graduate in Public Administration
  • and Kaitlyn Ellis, PhD Candidate in Biosciences
