Message from the President

President Taylor Randall smiles and leans against a concrete column

Dear University of Utah Community,

Over the past several years, the U has worked to make our community an equitable environment for all. These efforts have been impactful and important for getting us to where we are.

Prior to the establishment of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion division, this work was primarily done at an individual school-level and has oftentimes been treated as the work of one office, organization, or even person. Over the past year, it has become clear to me, and the other members of the U’s leadership team, that we must come together as One U to devote time and energy from every corner of the university towards ensuring our campus is an inclusive space for all members of our community.

I am appreciative of the collective efforts of all who have gotten us to this point and am excited to see this strategic plan be executed all across the U. The only path forward for our institution is led by our shared Guiding Principles on Equity and Belonging and underscored by our Six Commitments. These must be more than words or platitudes; these values must mold our decision-making and allow the U to be a leader in Utah for creating spaces where all feel welcome.

As a One U Thriving community, I am confident that we will make it happen.

Sincerely,

President Taylor Randall
The University of Utah
